Good Cop ... Bad Cop

One of the most laudable movements in America today is the group known as “Oath Keepers”. (Visit the “Oath Keepers” website.) The Oath Keepers represent the very best in American law enforcement (as well as the U.S. military … but that’s another story). The police of Oath Keepers are the “Good Cops”, the truly Good Cops. These loyal men and women have publicly re-declared that they will keep their oath to support and defend the Constitution from all enemies “foreign and domestic”. To them, this solemn promise is a sacred honor, not just some patriotic homily. This means they have sworn to obey the Second Amendment. Sadly, if there are “Good Cops” then there are also some “Bad Cops”. Fortunately for us, the Good Cops outnumber the Bad Cops by at least twenty to one. This is an imprecise estimate, but candid (and very private) discussions with police officers seem to support the reality that, at the most, five percent of cops nationwide are “dirty”.
What makes a Bad Cop? Two things leap right out front in the personality profile of a Bad Cop: Arrogance and Authoritarianism. (See the absolutely classic JPFO essay by Gus Cotey) A bad cop relishes the slap of the pistol against his or her leg (fair enough). However, at the same time, the Bad Cop feeds his or her ego upon the glances of fear, or the glances of respect, from an unarmed citizenry. THE SEVEN VARIETIES OF GUN CONTROL ADVOCATE

The right of decent private citizens to personally possess, transport, and responsibly use arms without government interference is the ultimate freedom and the main pillar supporting all other liberties. Few cultures have allowed their general population access to weapons, the tools of power, to the same degree as the United States. Instead, most societies have restricted the keeping and bearing of arms to a select few power brokers and their agents, often resulting in oppression on a grand scale.
Despite a massive amount of historical evidence to the contrary, there is a substantial body of Americans, many occupying positions of influence, who contend that the abrogation of the Second Amendment is the quickest path to domestic tranquility. Since this is as absurd as advocating blood-letting as a cure for anemia, it would seem advisable to question the motives and mentalities of the gun control advocates themselves.
In my observation, weapon prohibitionists can be broken down into seven major categories. Even though their motives may vary they all pose a mortal threat to liberty.
ELITISTS
Many of those in favor of oppressive firearms legislation are are best classed as elitists. Elitists frequently identify with a peer group based on wealth, power, rank, social status, occupation, education, ethnic group, etc. and perceive themselves and their peers as inherently superior to and more responsible than the "common people", thus more deserving of certain rights. Since elitists practically consider those outside their class or caste as members of another species, that most anti-elitist list of laws, the Bill of Rights is viewed by them as anathema. The Holder Justice Department declares open season on big city police departments

In 2000, a deputy attorney general in the Clinton administration slapped the Los Angeles Police Department with federal oversight. A 1994 law gives the Justice Department the authority to seek control of police agencies that have engaged in a “pattern or practice” of constitutional violations. Justice’s attorneys never uncovered any systemic constitutional abuses in the LAPD as required by the 1994 law, despite having commandeered hundreds of thousands of documents (and having lost 10 boxes of sensitive records). Nevertheless, for the next decade the LAPD would operate under a draconian federal “consent decree”—a nominally consensual agreement overseen by a court—governing nearly every aspect of its operations, at a cost of over $100 million in contracting fees and in manpower diverted to mindless paper-pushing.
The deputy attorney general who forced federal control on the LAPD in 2000 was none other than Eric Holder, who now presides over a Justice Department determined to make the Los Angeles consent decree the model for its future oversight of police departments. The current assistant attorney general for civil rights, Thomas Perez, told a conference of police chiefs in June 2010 that the Justice Department would be pursuing “pattern or practice” takeovers of police departments much more aggressively than the Bush administration, eschewing negotiation in favor of hardball tactics seeking immediate federal control. Perez has hired nine additional attorneys to beef up his division’s search for alleged police agency racism and to sue agencies that don’t capitulate to federal demands. Read full Article
Bloomberg Calls For Federal Action On Gun
Laws Following Arizona Investigation
New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg has called on Congress to tighten Federal laws that allow individuals to purchase firearms without a background check. His statements followed a recent probe
in which city investigators, who posed as consumers, were able to purchase firearms at a gun show in Phoenix. According to media reports, undercover video footage reveals that one of the investigators was able to buy a
gun after telling a private seller that he likely wouldn't pass a background check. Arizona law says that private gun merchants are not required to run background checks. However, if the seller "has reason to believe" a
customer is barred from buying weapons, they are prohibited from completing a sale, according to The Huffington Post. Read complete article

Obama Administration To Tackle Gun Control In Coming Weeks
White House officials have confirmed that President Barack Obama will address gun control policies soon. However, some critics believe that he should have used the State of the Union platform to address the hotly-debated topic.
According to media reports, the President intentionally omitted gun control from his nationally-televised address in order to focus on the topics of job creation and the economy. Administration officials said that the White House will unveil its plans to strengthen current laws, which allow some mentally unstable individuals to obtain certain weapons.
Gun control advocacy groups have pressured Obama and Federal lawmakers to implement more thorough background checks for firearm purchases following the Jan. 8 shooting in Tucson, Ariz. that left six people dead, including a 9-year-old girl.
The National Rifle Association (NRA), an influential lobbying group, has warned that an overreaction to an isolated incident may lead to a violation of the 2nd Amendment rights. Read More..

The recent shooting in Arizona is already launching gun grabbers in the media into a tizzy of gun ownership condemnation and those in our own government who fear an armed citizenry are already rehearsing their speeches and sharpening their pens in an attempt use the actions of one man to strip the rights and freedoms from hundreds of millions of RESPONSIBLE, RATIONAL, and MORAL gun owners.
The individual who murdered innocent people in Arizona does not represent the hundreds of millions of gun owners who peaceably use their guns every day, day in and day out to protect themselves, their families, their communities and their country.
When the dust settles in Arizona, and it will settle, the statistical and analytical truth we all know will once again demonstrate that guns in the hands of hundreds of millions of safe and sane Americans, save millions of lives every year across this country and collectively make us the strongest, most free nation in the world.
Anyone who tells you otherwise is simply speaking from an emotional state of mind and is intellectually unable or emotionally unwilling to look at the facts.
